Musical Meadow of Flowers

10 Duets for 2 Violas
Erwin Jacobs (*1936)
Difficulty level: 2 (Easy)

The musical language is - like our everyday language - brought here and connected to the classical-romantic tradition. I have chosen the flower names of the duets arbitrarily; they can stimulate the imagination, but are not to be understood as a program. The individual pieces are short and manageable, but of varying character. They do not require any special playing skills and can serve especially music lovers for stimulation and pleasure. It was important to me, however, to arrange both voices as equal and rhythmically independent. Erwin Jacobs

Studies for Viola
Timothy Baxter (1935-2021)

Grade 1-8

Short and simple pieces for Viola
Edited by Karin Dolman

Series: Educational #1

Many composers think of writing large work with virtuoso passages, for a large and excited audience. However, at this time I appreciate those composers most who write new music for our coming generations of musicians. That is music that inspires young talents and excites us listeners. Many of Timothy Baxter's compositions consider the level of its players. These player-friendly pre-studies present a welcome contrast to the daily exercises!  Karin Dolman

My First Playlist

Six Very Easy Pieces for Viola and Piano
by Austin Boothroyd (*1959)
Difficulty level: 1 - 3 (Easy)
Series: First Steps No. 1

This work finds its inspiration in the 1892 publication 'Easy Melodious Exercises in the First Position, for Violin with Pianoforte Accompaniment, by Edward Elgar, Op. 22.' 'My First Playlist, Six Easy Pieces for Viola and Piano' is a collection of new compositions for beginners on the viola. It is my hope that these new pieces will prove as useful and helpful as Elgar's original pieces.
