On 6 October 1819 Clara Wieck was baptised Clara Josephine in the Nikolai Church in Leipzig, Germany. Her parents were Friedrich Wieck and his wife Mariane Wieck née Tromlitz. Her father was a studied theologian. Because of his passion for music, he was trained on the piano and also founded a piano factory and a lending institution for music supplies. Clara's mother was a singer and pianist.
